Contributing to Free Software for all kinds of users – How?
GIMP is a free software program for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring.
It has many capabilities. It can be used as a simple paint program, an expert quality photo retouching program, an online batch processing system, a mass production image renderer, an image format converter, etc.
GIMP is expandable and extensible. It is designed to be augmented with plug-ins and extensions to do just about anything. The advanced scripting interface allows everything from the simplest task to the most complex image manipulation procedures to be easily scripted.

X Window System originated at MIT in 1984. The defacto Library for programming X is XLib. Due to nature of the library (it’s protocol implementation) , it is a fine grained API and is difficult to build today’s GUI. Enter Qt, GTK+/GDK and WxWidgets (all are using XLib in Linux for GUI rendering) for easing the programming burden. GTK+ Library was build for the GIMP and is the underlying library behind the GNOME desktop. The Qt (from Nokia [after Trolltech acquisition]) Library is used by the KDE. WxWidgets is one of the most popular GUI programming library in the world.

The emphasis will be on how you can use GCC to compile and build applications. Tools like make and qmake (for qt) and wx-config (shell script) will be used for the demo.

Shyamalendu (Barun Chanda) is a successful executive at a fan company where he is expecting a promotion shortly. His life revolves around his work and socialising with colleagues along with his wife, Dolan (Paromita Chaudhuri). His sister-in-law, Tutul (Sharmila Tagore) comes to stay with them for a few days. She is given a tour of the life they lead – in restaurants, beauty parlours, clubs and race courses. But then crisis strikes in the form of agitation at the factory just before the shipment of a prestigious export order and Shyamalendu is held to blame. With the help of a shady labour officer, Shyamalendu averts the crisis by declaring a lock-out at the factory after staging a false riot. For his ‘efficient’ handling of the crisis, Shyamalendu is promoted and there is congratulations all around – except from Tutul, who has understood the vacuousness of Shyamalendu’s world and has hated it. Shyamalendu is left successful and desolate – at the top.

EPLFC(Ernakulam Public Library Film Club) will be showing Alfred Hitchcock’s Dial M for Murder on 3rd June, 2010(Thursday) at 6 PM.
In London, wealthy Margot Mary Wendice had a brief love affair with the American writer Mark Halliday while her husband and professional tennis player Tony Wendice was on a tennis tour. Tony quits playing to dedicate to his wife and finds a regular job. She decides to give him a second chance for their marriage. When Mark arrives from America to visit the couple, Margot tells him that she had destroyed all his letters but one that was stolen. Subsequently she was blackmailed, but she had never retrieved the stolen letter. Tony arrives home, claims that he needs to work and asks Margot to go with Mark to the theater. Meanwhile Tony calls Captain Lesgate (aka Charles Alexander Swann who studied with him at college) and blackmails him to murder his wife, so that he can inherit her fortune. But there is no perfect crime, and things do not work as planned.
